| Public Education Programs at MRWC |
|
Public education helps keep the environment safe for wildlife. Along with welcoming over 2,000
visitors a year, we give over 200 talks to school children, youth groups, seniors and other interested organizations. Staff also answer numerous public inquiries, supply technical information to veterinary clinics, Fish and Wildlife offices and other wildlife rehabilitation centres, and provide information for research papers.
We frequently use live animals in our presentations. Two of our most commonly used animals are "Otis", a Great Horned Owl, and "Luka", a Swainson's Hawk. Both of these magnificent birds are not releasable and are now used for education purposes at the centre and at off site presentations. Our goal is to foster an appreciation, understanding and respect for all wildlife and our natural environment. We can show you ways that you can prevent injuries to wildlife and talk about ways that humans and wild animals can peacefully co-exist. There is no charge for our programs. However, we rely on and gladly accept donations of cash and/or gifts-in-kind. The amount of any donation can be what ever teachers, parents and their children, or any visitor to the centre feel they are able to afford. Details can be discussed with us when booking your presentation We conduct programs at the Wildlife Centre, in the classroom or at other locations in the community.
