Deer Rescue

This deer, after likely having an unfortunate meeting with a vehicle, settled down to recuperate behind a building in downtown Red Deer. Little did she know that the Festival of Lights was about to begin and she was going to be right in the middle of the celebrations!

She was showing signs of a concussion, wobbly and disoriented, but otherwise was in good health. Bringing her into our hospital would have caused unnecessary stress, likely doing more bad than good. Deer are extremely high-stress animals, and in most cases, actually have a much better chance if left in nature to recover.

With the help of City workers and volunteers, she was covered in blankets and quietly moved to a secluded spot near the Kerry Wood Nature Centre. She was monitored by staff and eventually regained enough strength to move on.
