Snowy Owl Update

In January we reported on two Snowy Owls in our care. We are very happy to report that both are recovering nicely.

The female is now flying perfectly and the male is coming along. We hope both will be ready to be released in March as soon as the mountains of snow subside and the ground squirrels begin to come out from their hibernation. Both birds have spent the winter in captivity and we’d like to see them released when the conditions are the best for their survival.

Snowy Owls wander their way down into Alberta during the months of November through March seeking plentiful food. We will see more in our area on years when the lemmings and other food source is lower in the far north. Years where the lemming population is high we may see no Snowy Owls in our area.
