Release of the Great Blue Heron

After spending the winter eating several cases of fish, hanging out with the ducks and geese in our pond, testing our creative abilities, and avoiding the long migration, our Great Blue Heron has been put back in the wild.

Our wetland had opened up, the sun was shining, and we had just used the last of the fish, so it was time to let the Heron go.

We figured it would likely hang out at our wetland, gaining strength, then eventually move on but we were wrong. With one toss from a volunteer, the bird lifted into the air, crossed over the wetland, gained elevation, and soared over the trees, out of sight.
